10 Tips on Managing Moods For Women

Women’s hormones fluctuate so much and so often a woman can find herself in emotional turmoil. Have you ever felt you have multiple personalities that read like this, all within the span of a month?:

Adventurer Annie

Go with the Flow Florence

I’m getting Tense Tina

Exploding Ebony

Melancholy Melanie

Peaceful Penelope

Loving Laura,

and Sexy Suzie?

We are made to experience a variety of emotions. Sometimes our personalities play a part. Sometimes our upbringing or environment contribute to our modus operandi or attitude. All of these elements thrown in with hormonal fluctuations can leave a woman wondering who she really is.

Sometimes we serve ourselves well to feel the emotions instead of ignoring them. Feeling them, crying, journaling our thoughts can bring us back to centre. What is important during emotional times is to know what to believe and what to discard. It is equally important to keep hope in place, so that we can wade through the turmoil.

We are made up of our personality and our hormones, but we are also made up of our thoughts, goals and dreams. Of course, if there are underlying unresolved issues, we are well served to dive into them with the help of a counsellor.

Many women feel using a counsellor indicates they “have a problem” when all they really need in their life is someone to talk to, someone to help them regain perspective, someone with whom to make goals with. Life Coaching is different than counselling. It is a relatively new process to help meet the need women have for support without having to go through therapy.

You don’t have to have a problem to use a life coach. Actually life coaching is for healthy women who need to gain some clarity or find encouragement.

If you chose not to use a life coach, there are a few truths you can adopt to help you with your multiple moods:

  1. Know that you are not alone in how you are feeling.
  2. Know that what you are feeling can work for your good. Getting in touch with what is important in life helps us reach out to others and move forward as we look for ways to fill the gaps.
  3. Try writing your thoughts in a journal or via computer. Look back on them over the course of time to see any patterns, half-truths or for encouragement.
  4. Remember happy, positive or uplifting times and hold on to them.
  5. Make plans for what you think is missing in your life and set goals to fill the voids.
  6. Take risks. For instance, if you keep thinking of a club or business you’d like to be part of, start one!
  7. Hang out with positive people. Don’t spend your life alone in front of a television. Don’t isolate. Don’t phone the friend who brings you down. Find someone who is a good role model and find out how they keep going.
  8. Read positive and uplifting materials. Keep learning and growing.
  9. Find ways to help people, the earth, animals or charities.
  10. Get busy and active. Get out of the house and do yard work, go for brisk walks, help the elderly, jog, spend a day at the mall, go mini-golfing. A change of environment and activity level may just be what you need to recharge your batteries.

Don’t despair. If you do try a few of these self-help ideas and are still not happy with the results, visit your medical doctor to discuss your situation. You may benefit from other professional help.

Issues and Concerns on

Being beautiful is regarded with high market value. For this reason, not only the celebrities and media persons take extras care on their skin, everyone who wants to stand out among the crowd would do all the things to achieve self-esteem by having a flawless skin.

Although various skin care products are out in the market, still many individuals, including celebrities resort to the natural way of maintaining a distinctive appeal. Because of the study which revealed that many commercial beauty products contain harmful ingredients, the cosmetic s and skin care industry has opened its doors to the safer alternative skin care products.

Using is not futile, as some individuals may think. Contrary to other people’s assumption, continuous and habitual use of natural plant extracts can improve the skin’s health. In fact, the antioxidants that are used by manufacturers of skin care products are from plant extracts.

Ideally, natural beauty skin care items are screened and approved by the FDA before it comes out in the market. But because of the increasing demand, several manufacturers illegally distribute counterfeit products which are not approved by the FDA. As a result, some consumers of organic skin care products contend that the use of natural herbs is harmful.

The fact is, majority of the dermatologist recommend the use of skin treatments with organic ingredients because they are less irritating and seldom to produce side effects. Organic ingredients are safe to be introduced in a living cell such as the skin because it is not regarded by our immune defenses as foreign substances. Hence, better absorption of beneficial nutrients is highly attainable.

However, you should remember that consistency in using the product t is an important factor for its efficiency. Some natural beauty skin care product users say that organic ingredients are not effective, but this could be because of two reasons; first, because of short-term usage of the product. Typically, an organic skin treatment would bring significant and visible results in a matter of two months of habitual use. Secondly, expired product. Although natural ingredients are used as an ingredient, preservatives are still needed to keep those it active. However, some manufacturers fail to include the product expiration in the container. Hence, some will mistakenly think that it all natural skin treatments are defective.

Healthy Love, Healthy Life

At the end of this article Jason and I offer three principles that are key for maintaining amazing relationships. But it’s not just about your relationship. In our workshops and in my alternative medicine practice, we’ve seen firsthand the close connection between the quality of people’s intimate relationships, their emotional well being and a person’s mental and physical health. Resolving emotional obstacles created by relationship challenges is critical for living a healthy lifestyle.

First, a little background.

In the fall of 2009, Dr. David Simon, the Medical Director of the Chopra Centre for Wellbeing, and author of Free to Love Free to Heal, made the following comment on the research direction being undertaken by the United States Government’s National Centre for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM):

“My experience is that many people seeking alternative healthcare approaches are struggling with unresolved emotional needs, which have been poorly addressed by both the conventional and alternative medical communities…We should refocus the efforts of NCCAM on the emotional-physical connection, seeking more effective ways to help people heal their bodies by healing their emotions.”

– Dr. David Simon, “Alternative Medicine Research Questioned”, The Noetic Post, (Fall/Winter 2009-10)

The emotional impact of problems in personal intimate relationships is powerful; and we know from research that the stress caused by these emotional upheavals can lead to mental and physical health challenges ranging from depression to heart disease.

Emotional dis-ease can be caused by other triggers than relationships, but…

Finances, career issues, and control over time are just a few common causes of stress and emotional upheaval. Problems in relationships, however, are inherently different from an emotional perspective. By definition, relationships are emotional. Most other causes of stress are not. Without emotion there is no relationship. Relationships between people are defined by the emotions they create – e.g., love, hate, anger, happiness, lust.

On the other hand, there is no inherent connection between emotions and stressors like finances or career progression. Although a variety of emotions can accompany outcomes in these areas, those emotions are not necessarily part of the package. How do we know this? Because, for example, you can separate finances and your emotions. Financial experts will tell you to not become attached to any particular outcome in your investments. Remain detached and objective. In other words, don’t let your emotions rule your financial decisions and results. It can be a challenge, but it’s possible.

Can you imagine, however, a relationship counselor offering similar advice? “Don’t become emotionally attached to your husband or to the outcome of your marriage.” It wouldn’t happen. Relationships and emotions cannot be separated. As your relationships go, so go your emotions; and, as Dr. Simon points out, as your emotions go so goes your health. Therefore, when we talk about healing the body by healing emotions an appropriate amount of attention must be given to healing relationships.

Principles You Can Use Today

The good news is that understanding a few simple principles of natural relating can both heal emotional distress from past and current relationships as well as cement fulfilling and satisfying relationships as a permanent part of your healthy lifestyle. Three of these principles are found in the following 2 simple sentences, which we include in almost every email we send:

“Now Go Appreciate a Man and Cherish a Woman. That’s All It Takes.”

Let’s look at these two sentences more closely:

1) “Appreciate a Man”

Women underestimate the impact they have on men. During a dinner party in 2008, Donna asked one of the guests what one thing she would like every man to know about women. She thought for a moment, then said, “I would like men to know just how powerful women are.” A few minutes later Donna asked a man a similar question, “What one thing would you like women to know about men?” He answered, “That men know women are powerful.”

As a woman, everything you say, how you say it and the look on your face when you say it impacts men powerfully. Nothing impacts a man for the good more than your approval and appreciation of what he does for you and your family. Here’s the formula, that when applied consistently, will produce magical results:

Thank him (include what you’re thanking him for) + How what he did made you feel = 1 Highly-Motivated Man

Your appreciation of him is the fuel that drives him at home, in the office and in your relationship. If he knows he’s winning with you he will move mountains.

2) “Cherish a Woman”

Men feel best when they are producing. It’s what they’re good at and what they enjoy most. That’s why many men wish – even pray – that providing a nice home, paying all the bills, springing for the occasional vacation and showering her with gifts is all it takes to make her happy. For men that stuff is easy. What women really want in relationship, however, is to be cherished, to receive quality attention from her guy. For men, entering this realm called “relationship” is not where they are at their best. It’s outside their natural domain.

What does quality attention look like? It’s asking her how her day was and really listening to what she says. It’s showing her she’s on your mind by hiding romantic notes in places where you know she’ll find them. It’s sending her a spontaneous email from the office telling her you love her. It’s looking her in the eyes when you talk to her. It’s hearing the big and little things she wants and getting them for her. It’s making love to her in a way that says she’s precious and the only woman for you.

3) “That’s All It Takes”

If your relationship seems like work – if it seems too complicated – you’re taking the hard route. Remembering to K.I.S.S. can help – Keep It Simple and Satisfying (and K.I.S.S. a lot!). And a simple way to a more satisfying relationship is to appreciate him and cherish her. During the “Divine Dance of the Sexes” Couples Weekend Workshop we look at these and many other principles of natural relating in much more detail. At a basic level, however, appreciating him and cherishing her is a powerful place to start.

Understanding the All

Everybody wants to be beautiful naturally rather than being beautiful through high chemical content products. We know that there are people suffering from chemical sensitivities that are looking for all- that are 100% natural. All are what we consider to be truly healthy beauty products.

There are so many beauty products nowadays which contain different kinds of chemicals that some of us might not understand what that chemical really is. Also, we do not know what benefits they could give to us. I remember going to a store where different kinds of beauty products are on sale. I saw this whitening lotion and out of curiosity I picked it up and read the labels at the back. I was kind of surprise to see those different kinds of chemicals that are being used. I did not even finished reading it and put it back to the shelf. Just imagine how these chemicals could affect your skin. I would rather mash up the papaya pulp and apply to the surface of my skin

All must be considered to be the high standard beauty products that are being sold today. All and natural food have no difference. Just like natural food has become accepted and revered, natural beauty care is finally beginning to receive the credit that it deserves. There are no strict standards in place to direct consumers to the real thing when it comes to completely natural. So its buyer bewares, and be educated as to what constitutes a completely natural product.

We see a lot of beauty products using the word “natural”. But do not be deceive by them. When you see the word “natural” on a beauty product, it is basically meaningless and worthless. This is a buzz word that is being used to attract you to buy those beauty products. So you better read the ingredient labels very carefully as much as possible. If you see any long chemical names that you can barely pronounce, there is a very good chance that it is not completely natural.

I may sound harsh but that is the truth. So, if you are using such chemical based products and even if you have been using that for years or decades, I would suggest that you compare your beauty products to food. The skin that surrounds your entire body takes in a large portion of whatever is put onto it. If you think that skin does not absorb, then think about birth control and Nicotine patches. Yes, skin does absorb and it is presently absorbing toxins every day if you use beauty products that contain dangerous ingredients. It may be a small amount on a daily basis, but when used continually all through your life, it can be a large amount, some of which remains. These chemicals may have been tested for so many times, but just imagine when all of these chemicals are put into the body, they will basically merge with each other. These combinations have not been tested. So it simply means that you are the guinea pig.

All are not just an imitation that you are buying in stores everywhere. They are the real thing. Different companies are coming ahead, bringing their wonderful, truly natural products to the market under the name all-natural or organic. Just continue to read your labels. It is your time to give your skin the beauty that they need. In turn, your skin will thank you with radiant, healthy beauty.

Women’s Hormone Replacement Therapy – Are You In Balance?

It has been two years since the Women’s Health Initiative Estrogen plus Progestin (WHI) arm of this large trial was stopped early because it caused harm. The WHI showed the opposite of what was expected–Estrogen (Premarin) plus Progestin (Provera) caused heart disease and breast cancer as well as blood clots and strokes. WHI results show that estrogen does not improve the quality of life for women. WHI estrogen plus progestin results are “evidence-based.”

We now have evidence-based proof that “HRT” is harmful to women. But people are still taking Hormone Replacement Therapy and are concerned about estrogen deficiency. Why? “Little has changed because the fundamental, negative ideas about women and about menopause have not changed. Universal menopausal hormone therapy … (is) based on a cultural belief that women are inferior and need fixing. For over twenty years I have been saying that menopause is a natural part of women’s life cycle, the low estrogen levels after menopause are healthy and not abnormal. This made me unpopular–I have been labeled as “way-out” or worse. Therefore the WHI results for me were a vindication”, says Jerilynn C. Prior BA, MD, FRCPC Professor of Endocrinology, Scientific Director, Centre for Menstrual Cycle and Ovulation Research, University of British Columbia. And, she is correct.

Two years after the WHI study little has changed. If you go to your doctor today and request HRT most will prescribe it for you. Despite the fact that The Women’s Health Initiative, the largest controlled trial of ovarian hormone therapy ever performed, provided the strongest proof that Medicine (which has been strongly influenced by the Pharmaceutical Industry) causes harm for women. The website for the WHI study said, “Women should stop their study drugs immediately.” Following that order led to hot flushes in many women who were on hormone therapy because their body had adjusted to that higher level of estrogen. Women who heard the news of the study in the media also often stopped their therapy abruptly. That led to severe hot flushes in hundreds of thousands of women and in virtually all women who had previously experienced them. “Because it is well known that rapid withdrawal from estrogen causes night sweats and hot flushes, all physicians should have been ready with advice for women wanting to stop estrogen.” Says Dr. Prior.

For Lack of helpful information, and because the resulting symptoms of night sweats/hot flushes were so miserable, many women, in desperation, reluctantly restarted unwanted HRT treatment. It seems logical to now say that the WHI results require re-thinking of the concepts on which menopausal “replacement” and “estrogen deficiency” were based. The primary assumption that all women needed estrogen because they were deficient still needs to be addressed. I like what Dr. Susan Love said, “If estrogen deficiency is a disease, all men have it!” Destroying the concept of estrogen deficiency will be hard and may take many years to achieve. In the mean time where does that leave you and I?

Estrogen Dominance not estrogen deficiency, according to Dr. John Lee is at the crux of our dilemma and bringing our hormones back into balance will be the key to hormonal health.

STEP 1. Become informed. The “Let’s Talk About Hormones” video provides valuable information on hormone balancing. Dr. Lee’s “What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause” has just been updated. Information is the key to your power!

STEP 2. Evaluate your own hormones with a saliva test whether you are on hormones currently or not. Find out if you have adequate hormone levels or are truly deficient.

STEP 3. Work with someone who understands the issues. Dr. Lee felt that most women can themselves oversee their hormonal challenges. If you must select a healthcare provider choose one who like Dr. Prior says, “I will never again prescribe estrogen as a pill. There is now overwhelming controlled trial evidence that pill forms of estrogen cause unacceptably high rates of clots and perhaps, through clotting, also increased strokes and heart disease. There are not yet strong data but it is likely that estrogen given through the skin (as a gel, crème or patch) will be less likely to activate liver clotting factors and thus safer. To me it means “bio-identical” or “natural” kinds of estrogen and progesterone both given in physiological doses.”

STEP 4. Just know that balancing hormones is not just about taking additional hormones but about diet and lifestyle changes. I believe that we have a unique opportunity, right now, as women on this second anniversary of the initial WHI results. We can become pro-active about our own hormone health and share with those women around us who are struggling with their hormone challenges. Women reaching out to other women will have a greater effect than waiting for the research to catch up. Each of us must practice living with these important ideas. Then hormonal health will be ours.

Staying Healthy While You Party and Camp at Music Festivals

Festival season is a highlight of the summer, a chance to let your hair down, catch some great bands and dance the night away, but it is also important to remember to look after your health at festivals. I have been to many festivals over the years and I have a few things that I always like to have with me to make surviving festival camping a little bit easier – here are some of my top festival tips for keeping healthy at festivals!

  • #1 – Antibacterial hand gel – I couldn’t be without this at a festival. The toilets are a breeding ground for germs and more often than not the supplied hand sanitizer at the toilets will have run out. Keep a bottle of hand gel in your bag or pocket to use whenever you need it and wash your hands whenever you can.
  • #2 – Water bottle – keep a bottle of water with you at all times. It is so important to make sure you drink plenty of water, fill up your bottle every time you see a drinking water tap. If you are drinking alcohol then drink water as well as alcoholic drinks to prevent getting dehydrated.
  • #3 – Alcohol – If you are drinking Alcohol try to keep it to a minimum, you want to feel good and enjoy yourself at a festival, you don’t want to be suffering from a hangover the whole time. Remember the recommended limits for alcohol are 3-4 units a day for men and 2-3 units a day for women.
  • #4 – Try and eat healthily – this can be difficult at a festival when you are surrounded by fast food, all of which smells pretty good when you are hungry. Try and choose some healthier options, there is a huge variety of food at festivals so have a look round and see what takes your fancy, don’t just go for the nearest stall selling chips. It is a good idea to have some snacks with you in your bag to keep you going throughout the day, fruit and cereal bars are a good idea. Make sure you try and have a good breakfast too. If you have a stove then take some oats to make some porridge.
  • #5 – Toilet roll – You don’t want to be caught out, its best to keep some tissues with you in your bag.
  • #6 – Wet wipes – when showers are nowhere to be seen or the queues are miles long then wet wipes can be a God send to get rid of that mud and make you feel a little bit cleaner.
  • #7 – Sleep – plan your festival days to make sure that you get enough sleep. If you are dancing til late make sure you either have a lie in or grab some sleep in the afternoon so that you can do it all over again!
  • #8 – Sun cream – you will be outside most of the time and it is important to look after your skin. Apply sun cream regularly to prevent getting burnt. Wearing a wide brimmed hat is also a good idea to keep the sun off your head and protect your face and neck.
  • #9 – Clothing – you never know what the English weather might bring at a festival, so be prepared for everything. Remember it will get cold at night, so wear layers to keep warm. Don’t forget waterproofs, in this country it is bound to rain at least once! Make sure you change out of wet clothes into dry ones and don’t sleep in damp clothes.
  • #10 – First Aid kit – pack a little first aid kit in your bag with some plasters, antiseptic wipes and blister plasters. When you are on your feet all day your feet are likely to suffer and someone you are with might be very grateful if you can offer them a blister plaster to ease their painful feet! Keep cuts clean and use plasters to prevent an infection.

It is important to remember to look after yourself as well as enjoy yourself but if you do fall ill then there will be medical staff at the festival who can help you. It is a good idea to make sure you know where the medical centre is as soon as you get there. I hurt my neck at a festival a couple of years ago and the St John’s Ambulance team were great at looking after me, so don’t be afraid to find them and ask for help. If you are worried about your health before attending a festival then speak to your doctor for advice.

Keep healthy and enjoy yourself!
